Description

Archaeologist Challenger sets out to rescue Princess Maria from the villainous Don Waldorado in the mysterious Pleasio Land. His journey begins aboard a speeding train before expanding into caves, islands and ancient structures filled with dangerous enemies and valuable items needed to reach the final confrontation.

Developed and published by Hudson Soft for the Japanese Famicom, Challenger combines several styles of action within one adventure. Side-scrolling platforming gives way to top-down exploration across a large map, while fixed-screen challenges and hidden areas add further variety. Its ambitious structure and changing perspectives made it an unusually adventurous release for 1985.
