Dragon Ball Z: Kyoushuu! Saiyajin for the Japanese Famicom combines role-playing progression with a distinctive card-based system. Cards influence movement and combat actions while characters gain strength through battles and training. The story covers major early Dragon Ball Z events and uses recognizable attacks and characters to recreate the Saiyan saga in a format quite different from later action-focused Dragon Ball games.
- Experience major events involving Raditz, Nappa and Vegeta through an RPG adaptation of the early Dragon Ball Z storyline. Famous battles are presented with detailed 8-bit character artwork.
- Use cards during travel and combat to determine available actions and their strength. Choosing the right cards adds tactical decisions to every encounter.
- Train and develop Goku, Gohan, Piccolo and other Z Fighters before increasingly difficult battles. Character progression gives the familiar anime conflict a traditional role-playing structure.
