Description

A lone soldier enters enemy-controlled territory on a dangerous mission requiring more than simple firepower. Hostages, fortified positions, mines and patrols stand throughout the battlefield, forcing the commando to find useful equipment and clear a path through heavily defended areas.

Dough Boy for the Japanese Famicom is an action game published by Kemco and adapted from the earlier computer title. The battlefield is viewed from above as the soldier moves between enemy units, collects useful tools and uses explosives to overcome obstacles. Its compact military scenarios and unusual objective-based structure make it an interesting artifact from the earliest years of Famicom action gaming.

  • Move through enemy territory while avoiding soldiers, gunfire and dangerous mines. Careful positioning is important because open areas can quickly become deadly.
  • Collect explosives and other useful equipment needed to bypass obstacles and complete mission objectives. Some situations reward planning instead of direct confrontation.
  • Rescue prisoners and penetrate fortified locations as the operation progresses. The mixture of military action and simple tactical objectives gives Dough Boy a distinctive early 8-bit style.
