Published by Sunsoft for the Japanese Famicom, Kanshakudama Nage Kantarou no Toukaidou Gojuusan Tsugi is a side-scrolling action game inspired by the traditional 53 stations of the Tokaido. Kantaro defeats enemies by throwing fireworks in carefully judged arcs while navigating hazards and hidden secrets. Its historical setting and playful premise give it a uniquely Japanese 8-bit personality.
- Throw explosive firecrackers at enemies while accounting for their curved trajectory. Accurate positioning is essential because attacks do not travel in a simple straight line.
- Cross stages inspired by the famous stations of the historical Tokaido road. Changing scenery gives the long journey a strong sense of progression.
- Discover hidden bonuses and survive increasingly difficult enemies as Kantaro travels toward his destination. The mixture of history and cartoon action makes this a distinctive Sunsoft classic.
