Description
Taizo Hori returns to face the familiar Pookas and fire-breathing Fygars, but this time the battle has moved from underground tunnels to tropical islands. Surrounded by enemies, he must use both his trusty air pump and the landscape itself to clear each island before the creatures overwhelm him.
Dig Dug II for NES completely changes the perspective of Namco’s original arcade hit by using overhead island stages. Enemies can still be inflated until they burst, but a new jackhammer allows fault lines to be cracked apart, causing sections of land and everything standing on them to sink into the sea. The result is a clever mix of arcade action and environmental strategy.
- Inflate Pookas and Fygars with the familiar pump until they burst. Fire-breathing Fygars remain particularly dangerous when they have a clear line of attack.
- Use the jackhammer at fault lines to split sections of the island away from the mainland. Large collapses can eliminate several enemies at once and produce valuable bonus points.
- Clear increasingly complex islands where careless destruction can leave little room to escape. The unusual terrain mechanic gives Dig Dug II a very different rhythm from its famous predecessor.
